Why Britain can't do barbecues

A good barbecue can never be planned—you just need to wait for the moment to arise, for all the conditions to be perfect, and then act fast.

It's almost as if British barbecuing has nothing to do with food at all, and instead it's one of those odd traditions, like rolling cheese down a hill or bog snorkeling, that we participate in purely to bolster some idea of national identity.
